Over 30 women artists from Goa come together for Show of Strength, a new art exhibition in Goa curated by Samira Sheth, celebrating Women’s History Month through diverse creative voices.

The Show of Strength exhibition in Goa shines the spotlight on women artists exploring identity, memory, ecology, and social change. Held at the historic Aguad Port & Jail Complex in Sinquerim, the show transforms the former prison into a space for freedom and artistic expression. The exhibition opens to the public from March 23 to April 30, 2026, following a preview on March 22.
Curatorial Vision
Curator Samira Sheth frames the exhibition as an act of liberation. “To have space, both mental and physical, to work on one’s practice and create art is a truly liberating act of self-expression,” she explains. Rooted in the symbolic transformation of its venue, the show examines restriction and resilience, asserting women’s voices within Goa’s contemporary art scene.
Artistic Voices and Mediums
From painting and sculpture to installation and textile work, Show of Strength brings together established, mid-career, and emerging artists, including those with disabilities. Artists such as Savia Viegas, Maria Andrade, Frederika Menezes, Venita Coelho, and Yolanda De Sousa Kammermeier contribute to this landmark display of creativity. Individually distinct yet collectively powerful, their works reflect the evolving narratives of Goa’s cultural and ecological landscape.
A Platform of Empowerment
Touted as the largest gathering of women artists in Goa, the exhibition underscores how women’s artistic practices are central to the state’s cultural identity. “They may differ in medium and language but are united in rigour and authorship,” says Sheth. Savio Mathias of Aguad Complex adds, “We are delighted to host this exhibition that highlights women artists’ creativity and contribution to Goa’s cultural landscape.”
