‘Footprints on the Moon’: Photography Show at BIC Celebrates India’s Lunar Leap

A unique three-day photography exhibition titled “Footprints on the Moon,” spotlighting India’s historic Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission, is being held at the Bangalore International Centre (BIC) from November 28 to 30, 2025. The show features 13 evocative backlit works by Chennai-based photographer Dheeraj Khandelwal, whose images capture the drama and emotion of the Chandrayaan-3 launch as witnessed from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

Exhibition Highlights

The exhibition is open daily from 11 am to 8 pm. It includes guided walkthroughs, photography workshops, and panel discussions that provide insight into the photography and India’s space ambitions. Khandelwal, known for his striking visual storytelling, documented the fleeting moments of the launch—an event that captured the imagination of more than a billion viewers worldwide.

Programs and Collaborations

Special events include “A Stellar Shot,” a workshop on rocket and aviation photography conducted by Khandelwal, and “Through the Lens and the Lab,” a panel that brings together perspectives from photographer Khandelwal, spacecraft designer Susmita Mohanty, and noted space writer Jatan Mehta to explore the cultural and scientific significance of India’s lunar journey. Additionally, a session for children, “Mission Moonshot,” guided by author Menaka Raman, introduces young audiences to the spirit of curiosity and perseverance seen in the Chandrayaan missions.

Artist Profile

Dheeraj Khandelwal, a self-taught artist and Nikon Ambassador, combines engineering precision and creative vision in his work, which has been showcased internationally and features on India’s airport displays. His collaboration with the BIC and participation in renowned exhibitions underline his place in the current landscape of fine art and documentary photography.

“Footprints on the Moon” presents not only stunning imagery of a technological milestone but also a reflection on the hopes, efforts, and imagination that drive India’s space exploration, engaging both the art-loving public and those inspired by space science.
