The Department of Fine Arts at the Sarojini Naidu School of Arts & Communication, University of Hyderabad, presented Final Display 2026, its annual postgraduate degree exhibition, from 22 to 24 May 2026. Held across the department’s Main Building and the Exhibition Hall at the S.N. Annexe, the show brought together the culminating works of graduating students across disciplines.
Featuring students from Painting and Expanded Media, Printmaking and Expanded Media, and Sculpture and Expanded Media, alongside a curated presentation by Art History and Visual Studies scholars, the exhibition offered a comprehensive view of the department’s interdisciplinary pedagogy. Open daily from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, the exhibition attracted artists, curators, students, and members of the public.
Established in 1988, the Department of Fine Arts has long positioned itself within a broader ecosystem of artistic and communicative practices, alongside departments of Dance, Theatre, and Communication. Its pedagogical framework emphasizes critical inquiry, material exploration, and socially engaged practices, encouraging students to develop independent visual languages rooted in contemporary realities.
Final Display 2026 reflected this ethos through a wide range of media, including painting, installation, printmaking, sculpture, artist books, sound, textiles, and performance. The exhibited works engaged with pressing themes such as memory, labour, caste, gender, ecology, identity, and technology, while also exploring notions of silence, the body, and spatial experience.
The exhibition functioned as a platform for dialogue and critical reflection. Installation views highlighted an emphasis on process-driven practices and interdisciplinary approaches, underscoring the department’s commitment to experimental and socially responsive art-making.
With its growing alumni presence in contemporary Indian art, the Department of Fine Arts continues to reinforce its reputation as a significant site for artistic and critical production. Final Display 2026 stands as a testament to the evolving concerns and practices shaping the next generation of artists.
