NDMC Opens Delhi’s First Open-Air Art Gallery, Srijan in Nehru Park

NDMC inaugurated an open-air art gallery ‘Srijan’ at Delhi’s Nehru Park on Friday (July 11). This initiative aims to foster interest and appreciation for art and culture among the locals in the nation’s capital.

“The gallery aims to democratise access to art by bringing it into open, accessible spaces — moving the art experience beyond traditional museums and auditoriums,” said Kuljeet Singh Chahal, vice chairman of the NDMC.

The entry for the gallery will be free of cost for all visitors. However, the artists will have to pay a nominal fee in order to display their work for a duration of five to seven days at the gallery.

NDMC chairman Keshav Chandra and Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal inaugurated the new space in the presence of celebrated artists, including Padma Shri awardees Biman Bihari Das and Jai Prakash Lakhiwal, who showcased their live painting sessions to inspire young artists.

Keshav Chandra in his speech, said Srijan is more than just an art gallery — it is a creative sanctuary envisioned to encourage community participation and make art a part of everyday urban life.

The Srijan art gallery is part of the NDMC’s initiative to make Delhi a centre of artistic excellence and cultural excellence. A dedicated Art and Culture Department was established as part of the body in May 2025, with a budget of ₹40 crore.
