Claire’s Exhibition features the last two monsoon cycles that she painted out in the open at a single rural location in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra. Before the Western Ghats, she followed the monsoon cycles of New Mexico for 3 years. The idea behind the viewers encountering Baker’s paintings immersed in the season’s rains, add a deeper layer to the art’s poetic reflection of the shifting nature of weather that is brought about by the onset and retreat of monsoons. Baker’s painting as drawing, painting through drawing, painting out of drawing—comes from durational experiences of change, sensation, and connection.
