Abhishek Singh Explores the Artist in the show at Ojas Art

Process to Path: An artist’s journey of exploration rooted in stories and spirituality by artist Abhishek Singh goes on display in Ojas Art Gallery space in Delhi

Ojas Art is keen to present a new solo exhibition Process to Path this summer, by prolific storyteller and artist, Abhishek Singh, who through his fantastical lens infuses his artworks with a deep reverence for the natural world and its species.

Through his work, Abhishek invites viewers to mull over and immerse themselves in the relationship between an artist and his art–nudging them to seek answers to pertinent questions. The show runs from May 02 to June 21, all week round at the gallery space.

Abhishek Singh’s Artistic Oeuvre

Is an artist making art with purpose or is it normal for art to exist without any decipherable meaning? Is there always an inspiration behind the images? What is the connection between the process and their path?

The answers to this and more, lie in Abhishek’s world of sketches, which chronicle his life as a storyteller. A master of his craft, he has the ability to transform simple subjects like trees to a sacred being, with much deftness.

Besides sketches, there are also paintings that offer a window into his visceral bond with nature. Abhishek has executed live drawings all over the world including the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Asian Arts, Budapest; Michael C. Carlos Museum, Atlanta; Guadalajara International Book Fair, Mexico and Jaipur Literature Festival.

At its core, ‘Process to Path’ offers a channel into the otherwise elusive world of a creator and uncovers never-before-seen works, shifting the lens where an artist morphs into seeker.

Elephants can Fly’, a painting by Abhishek Singh

Abhishek will display more than 20 artworks on acrylic, ink and gouache, on mediums like paper and canvas at Process to Path. The highlight is one of his magnum opus live paintings Elephants can Fly created at the Jaipur Literature Festival 2024. This artwork also scripts the beginning of a new mythological narrative centred around elephants. Interestingly, the piece also served as inspiration for Abhishek’s book, Hymns of Medhini, in the following year. This will be the first time that the completed painting will be on display.

Art in its core is sacred, because it intuitively acknowledges life around and within us as one

says the author of the recently published books, Namaha, Purnam and Sarvam.

In his long association with Ojas Art, Abhishek has previously showcased artworks that have resonated with thinkers and those who seek interest in the metaphysical world.

Reflections on the storytelling style at Ojas Art

Having spent many years researching ancient and indigenous philosophical texts of India as part of different projects, he has a unique style of storytelling that is at the intersection of world cultures, science and spirituality, identity, narrative and ecological symbolism.

There are certain charming narratives that are an inherent part of the design of the universe, which also corresponds with us divine beings. It also fills us with a sense of wonder and intrigue, pushing us to gather our thoughts and share our stories

concludes Abhishek.
