Artisera, one of India’s most prominent contemporary art galleries, is set to present Constructed Stillness, a two-person exhibition featuring acclaimed Bangalore-based artists Ashu Gupta and Sangeeta Abhay. The show will be on view from February 27 to March 2, 2026, at LTC, Bikaner House, New Delhi.
Curated around the idea of calm as a creation rather than a condition, Constructed Stillness invites visitors to consider how quietude and composure are built — through mark, material, and time. In an era dominated by speed and distraction, the exhibition gestures toward another possibility: one where stillness is not passive but deliberate, layered, and alive.
While their visual vocabularies differ, Gupta and Abhay share a commitment to patience and process. Gupta works extensively with pen and ink, expanding her practice into paper piercing, thread work, and fine sculptural interventions, constructing durational, monochromatic worlds that accumulate slowly through repetitive gesture. Her compositions, be they intimate scenes of daily life or symbolic meditations on presence reward sustained attention and invite contemplation.

Abhay, conversely, engages with the materiality of oil, gold leaf, resin, and metal, often weaving themes from Buddhist philosophy into her paintings and sculptures. Her series exploring Utpatti (origin) dwells on the moment when creation has taken form and settled into presence. Notably, her monumental sculpture of the Buddha in Bhumisparsha Mudra, constructed from 108 discarded keyboards, transforms the tools of instant communication into a reflection on digital-age mindfulness.
Together, their works propose that stillness is not the absence of movement but the result of sustained engagement — a rhythm built over time.
“We are delighted to present Constructed Stillness at Bikaner House. This marks the first time both Ashu and Sangeeta are exhibiting in Delhi, and we believe audiences here will find their practices both refreshing and compelling,” says Varun Backliwal, Founder of Artisera.
About the Artists
Ashu Gupta is a contemporary artist known for her patient, meditative approach to mark-making. A graduate of the National Institute of Fashion Design, Raipur, and an alumna of the Royal College of Art’s Contemporary Art Summer School, London, Gupta’s intricate works have been exhibited widely across India. Her art transforms repetition into reflection, offering viewers a sense of quiet endurance.
Sangeeta Abhay, trained at the Government School of Art, Aurangabad, is deeply influenced by the life and philosophy of Buddha. Her style blends spirituality with material innovation, exploring awareness, origin, and transformation. A recipient of the Florence Biennale Award (2019) and featured in BBC’s Civilisation documentary, Abhay’s works are part of major collections worldwide.
