LIVNGO Hospitality LLP presents Earthsongs From Japan, the first solo exhibition in India by Japanese artist Kumagai Minoru. Curated by Uma Nair, the show opens on 25 February 2026 at Kalamkaar, Bikaner House, New Delhi, and runs through 1 March 2026.
The exhibition displays 50 paintings on paper that explore humanity’s bond with nature through Kumagai’s signature “Saihaku” technique. This method layers gold, silver, colored, and holographic foils with traditional Japanese pigments and acrylics to highlight texture, brilliance, and depth.
Born in 1941 in Kyoto, Kumagai trained in Japanese painting at the Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts before becoming a designer and globally exhibited artist. His works capture fleeting natural light, mist-shrouded mountains, and abstract landscapes in palettes of deepened reds, russets, moss greens, and deep blues.
Curator Uma Nair describes Kumagai’s approach as a fusion of traditional landscapes with modern abstract expressionism and Impressionism. Compositions feature cross-hatched lines, calligraphic brushwork, and layered textures that blend Eastern and Western aesthetics, evoking sunrise vistas and spatial interplay between real and virtual realms.
LIVNGO Hospitality LLP, a business advisory and hospitality firm for Japanese expatriates in India, organizes the exhibition. The company combines over 40 years of expertise from Japanese and Indian professionals to support expat transitions with luxury services attuned to Japanese values.
