Gunjan Chawla Kumar’s ‘Sifr’ to Open in New Delhi, This December

Exhibit 320 will present Sifr, a solo exhibition by artist, scholar, and educator Gunjan Chawla Kumar, from December 11, 2025, to January 15, 2026, at its newly expanded gallery space in Lado Sarai, New Delhi. The exhibition text and programming are developed by curator and writer Anushka Rajendran. A preview is scheduled for December 10, from 5 to 8 PM.

Featuring over 60 new works, Sifr continues Kumar’s material‑based exploration of natural pigments, clay, handwoven cotton, and earth sediments sourced from across India and Chicago. The exhibition examines the concept of “zero” as void and vessel, combining drawings, paintings, and sculptural forms that reflect the artist’s engagement with material history and metaphysical inquiry.

Kumar’s practice, informed by years of research across archaeological sites and traditional craft communities, investigates relationships between matter, motion, and memory. In Sifr, she focuses on elemental forms such as the cone, symbolizing movement and continuity through layered pigment and texture.

Anushka Rajendran situates the exhibition within broader conversations on simultaneity, repetition, and transformation, highlighting how Kumar’s use of materials like turmeric, indigo, and vermilion connects to histories of gendered labor while reinterpreting them in abstract form.

Exhibit 320, established in 2010 by Rasika Kajaria, is known for showcasing contemporary art practices from India and the subcontinent, emphasizing conceptually driven and materially rich work. The gallery’s expansion marks its continued commitment to interdisciplinary exhibitions and its engagement with both established and emerging artists.

‘Sifr’ will be on view from December 11, 2025, to January 15, 2026, at Exhibit 320, F‑320, Lado Sarai, New Delhi. Visiting hours are 11 AM to 6 PM, Monday to Friday, with Saturdays by appointment.
