Echoes of the Hand: Gaurab Das Brings Sculptural Intimacy to Delhi

Black Cube Gallery, led by gallerist & curator Sanya Malik, is set to unveil “Echoes of the Hand”, a solo exhibition of new sculptures by Santiniketan-based artist Gaurab Das, running from January 30 to February 20, 2026.

The Artworks

Das’s latest body of work reflects his deep engagement with material, memory, and form. Working fluidly across bronze, wood, and stone, he fashions hybrid figures that move between the human, the animal, and the elemental. His sculptures, anchored in the tactile intimacy of clay, draw viewers into a space where gesture, void, and contour embody emotional resonance.

At the heart of Echoes of the Hand lies a meditation on relationships: between mother and child, human and nature, buffalo and land. Eschewing literal figuration, Das works through abstraction and rhythm, inviting viewers to experience form as both emotive and relational. The exhibition positions him as a distinct voice in contemporary Indian sculpture, one that bridges Santiniketan’s contextual modernism with a radical contemporaneity.

Artist Bio

Born in Bangladesh in 1992, Gaurab Das’s early artistic impulses emerged from his father’s painting practice and the craft culture of his village. After graduating from Khulna Art College, he studied at Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, where he completed both his Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts. His practice—shaped by influences ranging from Auguste Rodin and Henry Moore to indigenous sculptural traditions—has earned him international recognition, including the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant in 2019.

Following his debut solo at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, and several group exhibitions across South Asia, Echoes of the Hand marks a new maturity in Das’s work. In an art world increasingly driven by digital immediacy, his sculptures ground the viewer in the elemental language of touch, material, and presence.

The exhibition will be held at Black Cube Gallery, G12A Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi. The gallery will be open Tuesday to Saturday, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
