Abandoned by Latika Katt is Gallery Threshold’s exhibition of the celebrated sculptor’s final body of work. Running from July 28 to September 12, 2026, it explores sculpture, memory, material and time through her last creations.

Katt’s work was always rooted in the physical world, but it was never limited by it. She treated sculpture as a living process shaped by growth, decay, erosion and accumulation. Her forms often seemed discovered rather than made. Nature remained her constant point of return. So did the city of Varanasi, where the living and the dead flow through the same current. That duality gave her work its force. It stayed grounded in observation while remaining haunted by impermanence.
They suggest something buried and later recovered. They also feel like objects that have outlived their original moment and returned in a new form. The effect feels archaeological without becoming literal. The sculptures resemble fragments of a private civilisation shaped by touch, labour and memory.
Latika Katt’s Material Practice
Katt was a sculptor who refused the easy separation between material and emotion. Her practice included bronze, marble, terracotta, wood, ceramic, cow dung, papier-mâché, drawings and prints. She always adapted the material to the idea, never the other way around. She carved her own stone, cast her own bronze, and set unlikely substances into unexpected harmony. Even in her most monumental works, there is a sense of intimacy: the artist is always visible in the pressure of the hand, the attention to surface, the stubborn will to make matter hold feeling.
