Ankita Singh Captures Apavarga Aura and Shiva Shakti Vitality

An ineffable sense of aura and vital energy permeates the work of Ankita Singh. Her visual language unfolds as an intimate meditation on the unseen forces that animate existence—whether in the germination of seeds and roots, the radiating expanses of cosmic galaxies, or the microscopic cellular structures that constitute all living beings. Through her practice, the artist offers a contemplative inquiry into the essence of life itself.

Anchored in the philosophical concept of Apavarga—inner liberation and balance—Singh works with acrylic and ink on canvas and paper, creating compositions that resonate with both dynamism and stillness. Her intricate constellations of swirling lines, rhythmic dots, and layered textures evoke a meditative calm, while recurring motifs such as the rudraksha subtly allude to her spiritual alignment with Lord Shiva.

Shiva’s Prana and Shakti Union in Singh’s Metaphysical Art

Within the framework of Hindu philosophy, Lord Shiva transcends the reductive role of destroyer to embody Prana—the primordial life force—and the infinite consciousness that underlies all creation. As Swayambhu (self-manifested) and Mahakaal (beyond time), Shiva represents the eternal, unchanging reality from which all phenomena emerge and dissolve. Singh’s work gestures toward this metaphysical continuum, particularly through the dynamic interplay of Shiva and Shakti—the inseparable union of consciousness and energy, the masculine and feminine principles that together constitute the totality of existence.

From Universal Spirituality to Biological Roots in Singh’s Journey

The artist’s practice extends beyond doctrinal boundaries into a broader, universal spirituality. Her work articulates a shared human impulse: the search for connection with a higher essence—whether understood as nature, consciousness, or the sacred. In this sense, her visual vocabulary becomes a conduit for ideas of compassion, interconnectedness, and transcendence, inviting viewers into a reflective engagement with their own inner landscapes.

Singh’s artistic trajectory is deeply informed by her academic training, having completed her BFA in Graphics and Painting at University of Allahabad, followed by an MFA in Painting from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya in Chhattisgarh. Her early inclination toward art emerged through the meticulous rendering of biological diagrams during her school years—an experience that seeded her enduring fascination with the internal architectures of life. Encouraged by her family to pursue her artistic instincts, Singh committed to a path that has since evolved into a sustained and immersive practice.

Currently based in Lucknow, this exhibition represents the culmination of over two and a half years of dedicated exploration centered on the theme of Apavarga. Spanning more than fifty works alongside an evolving installation, the exhibition reflects her engagement with themes of spirituality, identity, and the natural world. Employing a diverse range of media—including acrylic, mixed media, and digital techniques—Singh constructs immersive visual environments that oscillate between introspection and sensory stimulation.

Her compositions are characterized by a delicate equilibrium between motion and stillness—forces that converge to create a contemplative space for the viewer. In this charged yet tranquil field, the audience is invited not merely to observe, but to enter into a state of meditative resonance with the work, drawing from its profound spiritual core.

Artist Statement

Over the course of my practice, I have created more than 10,000 paintings and drawings, working as a freelance artist for over a decade. My formative years included a four-year residency at Garhi Studios in New Delhi, a vital creative hub that has nurtured generations of Indian artists through shared spaces and interdisciplinary exchange.

In recent years, I have been associated with the Regional Centre of Lalit Kala Akademi in Lucknow. My work has been exhibited widely across India and internationally, and I have participated in numerous exhibitions and art camps. Through my practice, I continue to explore the evolving language of abstraction—engaging with form, colour, and the intangible energies that shape our perception of existence.”

Singh’s exhibition in New Delhi offers a compelling opportunity to encounter the vibrational energy that defines her practice, while reflecting on the trajectory of an artist deeply attuned to the spiritual dimensions of contemporary abstraction. The exhibition is curated by Georgina Maddox, a noted critic and curator.
