On May 8, 2025, coinciding with his 99th birthday, Sir David Attenborough released Ocean: Earth’s Last Wilderness, a comprehensive exploration of the world’s oceans. This project encompasses both a feature-length documentary and a companion book, aiming to highlight the beauty and fragility of marine ecosystems

The documentary, titled Ocean with David Attenborough, premiered in cinemas globally on May 8, 2025. Produced by Silverback Films and Open Planet Studios, it marks Attenborough’s first collaboration with National Geographic. The film delves into the critical state of the world’s oceans, emphasising the urgent need for conservation efforts. It is scheduled to premiere on the National Geographic Channel on June 7, 2025, and will be available for streaming globally on Disney+ and Hulu starting June 8, 2025, aligning with World Oceans Day.
