Group Exhibition “Nothing Twice” by Young Women Artists in Kolkata

Nine young women artists transform everyday moments into profound art in “Nothing Twice,” a group exhibition curated by Ushmita Sahu at Emami Art in Kolkata.

Nothing Twice Exhibition Concept

“Nothing Twice” draws from Nobel laureate Wisława Szymborska’s poem on life’s unrepeatable nature. The show runs from 20 March to 9 May 2026 and spotlights impermanence, memory, and human experience through painting, textiles, drawing, video, photography, and ceramics.

Curator Ushmita Sahu reimagines domestic materials like cloth, clay, and pigment as contemporary languages. “These artists understand that the most profound truths live in the spaces we barely notice—in the tension of thread, the weight of clay, the accumulation of brushstrokes,” Sahu says.

The exhibition champions fragility as sacred, countering a world fixated on permanence.

Artist Highlights

Arieno Kera from Nagaland archives cultural memory via painting, drawing, and video, blending indigenous traditions with contemporary idioms.

Krisha Bhuva, based in Vadodara, explores painting after scholarships and shows like Legacy of Kala Sakshi in Delhi. Manmita Ray from Assam delves into residencies at Emami Art, while Mitali Das from Kolkata marks her debut solo with textured narratives.

Moumita Basak weaves eco-feminist textiles on Bengal’s women and sustainability; Riti Sengupta deconstructs gender in photography; Ritwika Ganguly animates subconscious gestures; Priti Roy paints from Kolkata roots; Shilpi Sharma crafts nature-inspired ceramics from Santiniketan.

Richa Agarwal, CEO of Emami Art, celebrates these voices. “There is something exciting about watching a new generation of young women artists turn their attention to the present, pulling it apart to see how it works,” she notes. The Nothing Twice group exhibition in Kolkata invites pauses amid rushed lives, honouring fleeting gestures with dignity. Sahu positions survival and care as revolutionary acts through intimate art.
