“Myth, Memory, Meaning”: An Exhibition At Artisera

Ashu Gupta, Rakhee Shenoy, Smruthi Gargi Eswar and Sukanya Garg will be the four women artists participating in Artisera’s group exhibition in Bangalore starting July 26th

Our lived experiences and our unique individual stories fit as a thread or a pattern in the unique fabric which consists of our history, and all the stories which came before us. As a result, every artist’s personal expression can be looked through the lens of the history which came before said artist. Simultaneously, every artist’s perspective on history and mythology can be looked at considering the kaleidoscope of their own journey. Balancing this and more comes the group exhibition in Artisera, called “Myth, Memory, Meaning”. This exhibition will be presenting art by four artists, Ashu Gupta, Rakhee Shenoy, Smruthi Gargi Eswar and Sukanya Garg.

“Moving across mythology, emotion, and embodiment, the exhibition invites viewers into intimate spaces of reflection, healing, and wonder.”

“The title of the exhibition speaks to three elemental forces—Myth as symbolic storytelling, Memory as a lived archive, and Meaning as the ever-shifting pursuit of understanding. Each artist navigates these ideas through a distinct visual language, engaging with a broad spectrum of themes such as time, nature, mundanity, lived experiences, inner transformation, and the Sacred.”

In addition to the varied themes, the artworks will present a wide ranging diversity of media. Ashu Gupta predominantly uses patternmaking, embroidery, pen and ink, stippling and paper piercing. Contrastingly, Smruthi Gargi Eswar utilises acrylic in multiple thin washes over canvas. Rakhee Shenoy specialises in “textile-forward mixed media works.” Comparatively, Sukanya Garg uses embroidery on silk, burnt paper, gold leaf, acrylic and pen and ink. The works are “rooted in storytelling, trace the deeply personal and profoundly universal dimensions of the human experience.” The exhibition offers a female perspective on the complex themes presented, making it a notable highlight pertaining to art exhibitions.

“All four artists in this exhibition are pushing the envelope of creativity with their individual art practices. The rich variety of materials, mediums, and techniques being used by them is inspiring, and their diverse ideas and storylines are a brilliant example of why the female voice is so important in the world of art.” ~Varun Backliwal, Founder of Artisera
