Latitude 28 Opens New Gallery Space in Defence Colony with Show “Dramaturgies of Space”

Latitude 28, one of India’s leading contemporary art galleries, will open its new gallery space in Defence Colony, New Delhi, this November, marking 15 years since its founding. The inaugural exhibition, Dramaturgies of Space, curated by Satyajit Dave, will preview on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 7 PM, with regular viewing hours Monday to Saturday from 11 AM to 7 PM.

The new space is located at B-74, Ground Floor, Block B, Defence Colony, New Delhi, 110024, and represents an expansion beyond the gallery’s Lado Sarai address, which has hosted significant exhibitions in the Indian contemporary art calendar over the past decade and a half.

Founded in 2010 by Bhavna Kakar, Latitude 28 has championed experimental, research-driven, and material-led practices from South Asia. The gallery has exhibited artists whose work interrogates memory, identity, and geopolitical histories, with presentations at prestigious platforms including the India Art Fair, Art Basel, Art Dubai, Bukhara Biennale, Dhaka Art Summit, and the Venice Biennale.

The inaugural exhibition features works by eight artists: Chandan Bez Baruah, Firi Rahman, Juhikadevi Bhanjdeo, Monali Meher, Riyas Komu, Salik Ansari, Sudipta Das, and Waswo X. Waswo.

According to curator Satyajit Dave, “Latitude 28’s new home is not simply a container for art. It is a stage where meaning is continuously produced. The gallery is imagined as a site of dramaturgy, where bodies, materials, light and time unfold in choreographed tension.”

The curatorial concept explores the gallery space itself as an active participant in the exhibition, with architecture functioning not as a backdrop but as a collaborator. Dave writes that “the visitor in this exhibition is not passive. They cross thresholds, voids, and suspensions,” engaging with works that range from Sudipta Das’s fragile paper figures to Chandan Bez Baruah’s carved landscapes and Riyas Komu’s politically charged figuration.

The new Defence Colony space is designed to serve not only as an exhibition venue but also as a space for residencies, talks, and cross-disciplinary projects. The gallery describes it as “a convergence of art, writing, and curatorial research” that will engage with urgent artistic and cultural questions.

Dramaturgies of Space will be on view through the exhibition period at Latitude 28’s new Defence Colony location.
