In-Between Dreams: A Solo Exhibition by Pema ‘Tintin’ Tshering

Threshold Art Gallery is proud to present In-Between Dreams, a moving solo exhibition by celebrated Bhutanese artist Pema ‘Tintin’ Tshering. Known for his introspective approach and evocative symbolism, Tintin brings together a bold new body of work exploring the delicate terrain between life and death—where dissolution meets awakening, and perception becomes prayer. The exhibition is on from 19th September to 18th October 2025 at Threshold Gallery, New Delhi.

Rooted in the Buddhist concept of bardo—the intermediate state between death and rebirth—Tintin’s paintings trace a spiritual passage rather than a definitive path. Drawing from Himalayan cosmology, vernacular craft, and personal experience, these compositions reflect a liminal realm where impermanence is not feared, but witnessed. Each work serves as an invitation to perceive the unseen, to engage with transition, and to reflect on the quiet rituals of becoming.

Rather than literal renderings, Tintin’s canvases unfold as visual meditations—emotional landscapes composed of light, color, and texture. Through masks, mythic beasts, and elemental patterns, the series invokes the Garuda: a powerful symbol of transformation, imagination, and inner flight. Woven into the spiritual geometry of each piece is a call to resilience—an affirmation of the human spirit’s capacity to dissolve, reassemble, and reimagine.

Bhutan’s cultural heritage, steeped in Buddhist philosophy, forms the backdrop of Tintin’s artistic practice. As a self-taught artist immersed in this deeply spiritual atmosphere, he brings together traditional thangka aesthetics with modern abstraction, creating a visual language at once personal and universal.

“We cannot understand life without understanding death,” Tintin says —pointing to the heart of his inquiry and the enduring message of the exhibition.

He further adds, “In painting the stages of dissolution, I am searching for clarity more than confidence. This work is not about answers, but about creating a space where perception might soften something within us—where we might glimpse the truth in   impermanence.”

In-Between Dreams is an invitation—not simply to view, but to witness. To trace the arc between breath and letting go. To recognize, perhaps, that rebirth begins with perception.
