In her debut exhibition at the AIFACS Gallery, Khushi Khandelwal presents the raw physiological and psychological layers beneath our surface
Imagine if one day everything underneath our skin gushed out in a non-orderly, grotesque fashion, which many horror movies depict. Now imagine if what came pouring out was not just our internal organs, but also our deepest, most hidden aspects of our psyche. This includes our fears, anxieties, paranoia, delusions, all of which we hide with a simple smile, the way our skin coats all our internal organs. Such is the theme that Khushi Khandelwal explores in her debut art exhibition in Delhi “What’s Under My Skin” at the All India Fine Arts And Crafts Society.
“What’s Under My Skin? is not simply an exhibition; it is a window into the artist’s internal challenge – a challenge that is influenced, at times, by the insidious subtext of emotion that often characterizes our lives. With her collection, Khushi examines how layering is quietly rolling beneath the surface of what most people live with, but hardly articulate: anxiety, fragility, and psychological exposure.”
Khandelwal, a 20 year old student of LASALLE College of The Arts Singapore, has made an impactful and lasting impression in her debut. She had onlookers gazing and unpacking her canvases for lengthy amounts of time. She dives into her most personal emotions and psychology, whilst also exploring anatomy, which inevitably turns a mirror to the individual who stumbles upon her work. It takes a lot in today’s world, especially as an artist to be vulnerable. The first visitors of her works definitely noticed this vulnerability.
Khandelwal works with mixed media and installation, and has been a participant in ‘Everything In Between (2024)’ and ‘Crumbs (2025)’ in the past and has also won the “Suresh Khanna Trophy for Excellence in Art” at Welham Girls’ School in 2023. She is undoubtedly headed towards a notable career and future in art.
“In What’s Under My Skin, Khushi puts herself out there by sharing a deeply personal conversation with the greater community, giving us pause, prompting reflection, and asking us to connect with what is under our own skin.”
