The Stillness That Spoke, A Diverse Exhibition Featuring 11 Artists

Artwork
Featuring works across painting, sculpture, textiles, found objects and mixed media, this exhibition in Ahmedabad probes the viewer to pause

“What if objects could speak—not through words, but through presence?”

This is the central theme of the ongoing exhibition The Stillness That Spoke. It is an exhibition where the art itself speaks rather than the artist. The objective is not to analyse the meaning or interpret, but simply linger in the stillness. “Instead of telling stories or using obvious symbols, these works invite viewers to slow down and pay attention—to textures, to forms, to the spaces in between. This is not an exhibition that asks you to understand; it asks you to feel.”

Bringing this intention to life are 11 artists, Bhuwal Prasad, Biplab Sarkar, Chetan Solanki, Darshini Dalwadi Patel, Ekta Singha, Kapil Jangid, Manjit Gogoi, Neha Dey, Somu Desai, Suvradeep Samanta, and Tushar Waghela. They bring forth a diverse collection of artworks ranging across media, such as painting, sculpture, textiles, found objects and mixed media.

Bhuwal Prasad uses handmade paper and organic materials, and through them explores tribal and miniature motifs. Biplab Sarkar uses watercolours to capture the fast and fleeting city life. Contrastingly, Chetan Solanki focuses on the rural closeness to the Earth, using materials like clay pigments, gum arabic and khadiya. Darshini Dalwadi Patel uses her training in textiles to create large cloth-based works which highlight the need for sustainability and ecological consciousness.

Ekta Singha’s abstract sculptures invite the viewers to touch and interpret based on their tactile experience. Conversely, Kapil Jangid works with reclaimed wood, concrete and metal to create architectural structures reflecting his childhood of growing up in Vadodara. In a similar fashion, Manjit Gogoi explores cultural loss and invisible labour through his works metal, scrap and leftovers from rituals.

Neha Dey’s sculptures and drawings don’t explore the moment itself, but what came right before or after it. Thus, they leave only a glimpse of what once was or what is to come. Somu Desai contrasts the industrial with the rural, and development with memory, through his sculptures. Suvradeep Sumanta probes into topics such as politics, environment and ritual through his found objects. Finally, Tushar Waghela makes multi-cultural works combining Persian miniature painting, folk tales and nature.

The exhibition is curated by Purva Damini, who founded 079|STORIES alongside Kirat Damani.

“Stillness is not passive, it’s where truth lingers—beneath the noise, between gestures. This exhibition is about creating space for that kind of listening.”
