The Weight of Light: French Artist Thomas Henriot solo in New Delhi

Thomas Henriot

Art Centrix Space presents The Weight of Light, a solo exhibition by French artist Thomas Henriot, opening Saturday, 11th April 2026. The exhibition, which focuses on Henriot’s practice of large-scale ink drawings and gold-thread tapestry, will run until Tuesday, 12th May.

The Weight of Light brings together large-scale drawings and a selection of sketches, offering a view into the evolution of each work. Executed with Chinese ink on Japanese paper, Henriot’s drawings are made in a single, sustained gesture, often on the ground and in direct response to the site. Architecture and landscape enter the work through proximity and scale, rather than composition.

Developed during a recent residency across India, the works respond to specific locations, including Basubati Palace in Calcutta, alongside Jodhpur and Benaras. Each piece reflects a direct engagement with built form and the environment, registering the site’s physical and spatial conditions.

“Thomas’s work begins with movement,” says Monica Jain, Founder–Director, Art Centrix Space. “The line carries time and encounter within it. What interests me is how the work holds space as an experience, a moment captured in his art.”

A parallel strand of the exhibition extends Henriot’s collaboration with the Lyon-based textile house Brochier Soieries. Selected drawings have been translated into Jacquard weavings using silk, cotton and gold thread, introducing a material density that shifts the work from paper into textile while retaining the structure of the original line. Among these is a large-scale textile work derived from the Basubati Palace, realised through thousands of threads.

Henriot’s practice has developed through extensive travel across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. His work operates as a record of movement and duration, shaped as much by time spent within a place as by what is observed.

In The Weight of Light, gold appears as a changing condition rather than surface or ornament, shifting with light and perception.

Thomas Henriot (b. 1980, Besançon, France) lives and works between Marseille, Havana and Kolkata. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in significant private and institutional collections.
