Sanjay Das presents Cupola on the Cusp: History Through the Lens, a photography exhibition in New Delhi that captures Rajasthan’s fading architectural stories.
Sanjay Das’s Cupola on the Cusp: Rajasthan Heritage Unveiled
Cupola on the Cusp: History Through the Lens opens at CCA Gallery in Bikaner House. Sanjay Das photographs Rajasthan’s heritage for this show. It runs as part of Rajasthan Utsav 2026.
The works blend art, history, and memory. Viewers see grand monuments and quiet, forgotten spots. Each image feels alive with time’s passage.
Sanjay Das’s Practice in Cupola on the Cusp Show
Sanjay Das uses an archival style. He photographs abandoned havelis, old frescoes, and empty corridors. His lens shows fragility and continuity.
“Rajasthan is a landscape I return to instinctively,” Das says. “Beyond its celebrated grandeur, there are quieter spaces that hold stories on the verge of fading.” He aims to preserve how these places feel.
Curatorial Vision
Kishore Singh curates and adds evocative text. His words give depth to the photos. They place the work in talks about history and photography.
“In times saturated with visual imagery, the role of photography must go beyond the obvious,” Singh notes. “Sanjay Das’s work resists the cliché. It exists in a space between myth and history.”
Key Themes
The show reflects tension between preservation and loss. Das focuses on uncelebrated spaces in Rajasthan. These hold deep cultural meaning.
It invites viewers to see heritage as living. From close details to big forms, images build a story of endurance. Bikaner House adds its own historic feel.
Exhibition Highlights
Gallery Ragini presents the show. Nidhi Jain says, “Sanjay’s work embodies the spirit of what we stand for – an artistic practice that is rooted in tradition yet distinctly contemporary.”
Ina Puri mentored the artist and gallery. Her guidance shapes the clear ideas here.
