Method Delhi presents Formation & Fracture

An exhibition by alumni of IMMERSE by Somaiya Vidyavihar University

Method Delhi is proud to present an exhibition by alumni of IMMERSE by Somaiya Vidyavihar University titled – Formation & Fracture on going till 3rd August,2025

Formation & Fracture brings together 13 alumni of the IMMERSE Fellowship to explore the delicate tension between making and breaking, between creation and collapse. The exhibition invites us to consider how things—bodies, beliefs, landscapes, systems—come into being. Formation here is more than just building; it’s a metaphor for how identity, memory, and structure take shape through layering, constructing, and emerging.
But where there is formation, there is also fracture. Cracks, interruptions, ruptures—these breaks are not failures, but often inevitable responses to internal or external pressures. Fracture can reveal vulnerability or strength; it can be painful, beautiful, or transformative. Here, fragility and resilience coexist, and every fissure holds the potential for something new.

IMMERSE is an initiative by Somaiya Vidyavihar University in association with and conceptualised by Al-Qawi Nanavati, Natasha Jeyasingh, Shaleen Wadhwana and Siddharth Somaiya. It is a fellowship that supports early-career artists and curators from across India, providing them with the resources, mentorship, and visibility they need to grow their practices. Method and IMMERSE share a commitment to emerging artists as we believe their voices are essential to shaping the future of contemporary art. By creating platforms like this exhibition, Method aims to amplify that potential and connect their work with new audiences.

‘Locust Attack’ 2025 Hasan Ali Kadiwala

My practice spans across painting, printmaking, photography, and mixed media, with a conceptual focus on memory, spirituality, and language. In printmaking, I primarily use etching, especially aquatint, to achieve atmospheric depth. These processes allow me to reflect the complexity of memory its fragments, its textures, and its quiet power. I also document moments through photography during my visits to the village fleeting gestures, human rituals, birds in flight. These observations act as visual notes, influencing the form and content of my studio work. At this stage in my practice, I am focused on deepening the connection between text, memory, and abstraction. Birds increasingly appear as metaphors of rhythm, migration, and spirituality mirroring the presence of Azaan and the layered emotional history it carries.

Installation view of Shikha Soni’s works

‘To know the truth of flowers, I start plucking the petals’ says Shikha Soni. Painting, for me, is a deeply personal act-an ongoing practice of connecting with myself. Each work becomes a space where I engage with my thoughts, trace emotional shifts, and observe my inner landscape as it evolves through the painting process. This series is a collection of painted portraits of people I know and have seen beauty in-fellow artists, a former teacher, a batchmate, and those closest to me: an ex-lover, my twin sister and my best friend. The initial reference images are photographs I took during candid moments- instances of ease and authenticity. These portraits became a site of control and surrender-an exploration of my own perfectionism and technical limits, but also an opening toward imperfection, softness, and care. Each layer held quiet, reflective conversations. Who am I when I am with you? What does my way of seeing you say about me?
