Chandrashekhar Vasantrao Waghmare, artist, printmaker, and gold medallist from MS University Baroda has passed away at 37. Based in Nagpur, Waghmare’s works drew eloquently from the everyday, observing the pulse of social change and celebrating life in intimate detail.
His journey was marked by major accolades, including the Grand Award at the 2nd Print Biennale India (2021, Mumbai) and the Third Prize at the International Print Biennale, Yerevan (2021). This year, he received the 58th State Award in Printmaking.
Waghmare’s legacy includes a dynamic practice at “Orange Atelier India,” a solo at Art and Aesthetics Gallery (Delhi, 2016), and placements in the Guanlan Biennial China collection. Supported by fellowships from Shrishti-AIF, the Ministry of Culture, and more, he fostered creative conversations across India’s contemporary art landscape.
We honour the life and artisanal courage of Shri Waghmare, whose printmaking continues to inspire critical reflection and artistic innovation.
