The Liquescent House in Ahmedabad has been envisioned as an exploration of fluid architecture, where organic forms are translated into a continuous sculptural composition. Designed by architect Shaili Banker, conventional boundaries between roof, walls, and interior spaces have been dissolved, allowing carefully articulated curves to shape dynamic volumes and merge seamlessly with the surroundings.
Ferro cement has been selected for its flexibility and strength, enabling thin, flowing surfaces and ultra-slim edges that reinforce a sense of lightness. The materiality has played a crucial role in achieving the house’s seamless and cohesive form.
Art has been embedded within the architectural fabric rather than treated as an addition. Site-specific artworks have been integrated across surfaces, while independent pieces have been placed throughout the interiors and landscape. A predominantly white palette has been adopted, with sculpted ceilings incorporating curves and niches that subtly integrate lighting.
From the china mosaic entrance floor illuminated by glass orbs to the coloured skylight mural in the dining area, and from hand-painted backdrops in the bedrooms to lotus motifs in the patio, the boundaries between art, architecture, and nature have been gently blurred, allowing the house to be experienced as a unified artistic expression.
