5 Indian Artists Among Pollock-Krasner Grantees

Established in 1985 through the generosity of Lee Krasner, one of the foremost Abstract Expressionist painters of the 20th century, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation is a leading supporter of emerging and established visual artists.

Out of 107 artists selected from 14 countries and 21 U.S states for the prestigious Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, five were of Indian origin. These talented Indian Artists stood out among a diverse pool of global recipients, highlighting the growing impact of Indian contemporary art on the international stage. The five Indian origin artists are:

Parul Gupta

Based in Noida, Parul is a contemporary artist her works are based on geometric abstract compositions. Her practice includes drawings, sculptures, installations and kinetic works.

Shatrudhan Kumar Gupta

Shatrudhan is a multidisciplinary artist whose experimental practice spans painting, ceramics, installation, and video, His work explores the journey from ordinary to extraordinary, marked by a deep sense of interconnected themes and cultural nuance. He lives and works between Lucknow, India and Shanghai, China.

Mahesh Jagtap

Hailing from Mumbai, Mahesh is a sculptor, painter and conservator. His paintings delves into interplay of conscious and subconscious mind. His works are a visual dialogue between inner emotions and and external materiality. In addition to his artistic practice he specializes in preserving paintings, sculptures and heritage objects.

Based in Vadodara, Gujarat. Sudipta’s practice revolves around the tenacity, fragility and importance paper has in peoples lives. She works with paper sculptures inspired by the Dakjee doll making technique which she learned during her residency program in Korea.
